That's right folks...complete with a docking bay...free of outside elements! |
Can we take it home? |
We first set out to stop at Oromocoto NB, known for their Military presence. For some strange reason, they refer to the base as the Canadian Forces Gagetown Military Base, even though it does not reside in Gagetown! I wish we could share with you why this is, but when we finally found the base, we discovered the Military Museum was closed! We have been discovering this is a small set back in travelling this time of year, but honestly, that's okay, as we tend to make the most of self-guided tours when this happens! We still managed to take tons of pictures of outside artillery weapons and vehicles - something we would not likely see anywhere else. Our nephews would be in awe of these machines. It really put into perspective the diverse needs to accommodate differing terrains that each vehicle and the military personnel would need to combat.
We moved on from here to stretch our legs in Sussex NB, known for many things, but we focused on the towns wall murals. These things are absolutely breath taking - and HUGE undertakings on behalf of the artists who painted the murals. Throughout the downtown district of Sussex, there are over 28 murals spanning not only the front or back of a building, but sometimes wrapping them around 2 or 3 sides of the building! Each one depicts town history, but again, the self guided tour was limited, as the person who was suppose to be in the Visitor Centre Office left for 5 minutes but didn't return until sometime after our 20 minute wait. Oddly enough, there was a massive fire right across the road on Tuesday evening from the Visitor's Centre which was housed in their old train station building. The fire demolished at least 5 stores and several apartments. This was HUGE news to the community which drew a large "observing crowd" as the investigators combed through the remains. Ash and soot was all over the street and the area still smelt of charred buildings. Anyways, one of the observers perched on a park bench directed us in the direction of most of the murals. We took pictures (tons of them!) stopped at the library for Ken to take his predictable library picture (he's now determined to get a picture of EACH library in EACH town we stop in), then returned to the visitors centre when we were done the walk to pick up the brochure which explained each mural. We'll save that for our leisure reading & compare the descriptions to our pictures!
Wi-Fi and Kitchen Shelter Room on Site Fundy National Park |
We arrived at Fundy National Park at about 4:00 pm, only to arrive at the first gate, be charged an incredible amount of coin - just to enter the pearly gates (Ken's still recovering from that!), to travel another 16 km to reach the next gates in order to pay for the next 3 nights! We haven't decided if we will stay put that long yet, but tomorrow will help us decide, depending on what we take in, and what we want to do. It sure was nice to set up camp, pull out the BBQ and cook a meal...the microwave and fridge has been our source of food since leaving Guelph as our arrival times have been later than hoped, and we have been too tired to do much more than this up until now! Cocktails were enjoyed while supper cooked, a well deserved shower and now I sit and blog, while Ken does laundry...almost a perfect day. What could make it any better you ask...a Rye and Pepsi while I type!
The park, like the previous park, has a "kitchen shelter" which houses a wood stove, although this one is completely enclosed. It's so homey here! It also offers free Wi-Fi, which is good, as my phone receives absolutely no service while in the park. For this reason, unless I am sitting in the shelter, I will not have access to the outside world. Let's see how long I can survive that!!??

Love the pic of Ken between the two Army armoured vehicles, not quite a Lambo and Ferrari but they would be fun to drive as well. Tell him that entrance fees to park are still cheaper than U2 tickets and worth it for the experience.Great to hear you guys are enjoying yourselves and getting, at least in BC time, an early start. Watch the shore waves in NS with Leslie on its way!! really nice to be able to share your trip keep the posts coming! Cheers Nigel and Anita
Woohoo...we can post!!! How exciting for us!Sounds like fun! Don't want to make you nervous, but keep an eye on the weather forecast...big storm brewing in the Alantic...started small and moving quickly, but now stahled and gaining strength and moisture. Batten down the hatches as they its a doozie!!! (hitting Canada East Coast mid-next week!)...but enjoy your trip!
Only you would find the local bkm and get the royal tour. Tell me, did they let you drive it??
We were pressed for time...otherwise I may have asked! LOL
You may have planted a seed in me for consideration when I hunt the Bookmobiles down in Nova Scotia though! :-)
