Back in Chezzetcook once again. September 16, 2012

Before I begin, 25 years ago tomorrow, my little brother Steven turned 16.  It was like a remake of the classic movie "Sixteen Candles", but the lead role was a male!  With all the focus on the preparations for our wedding in 2 days, Steven, perm and all, was concerned no one would be paying attention to his monumental milestone.  Like the good sister and soon to be brother-in-law we are, we threw a surprise Sweet 16 birthday party for Steven.  Looking back on pictures, we were exhausted, but it was worth a million "do overs" seeing Steven enjoy some "me" time with his family and friends.  Steven, tomorrow we will raise our glass to you in celebration of your 41st birthday.  It may not be the same "hoopla" without us there, but I'm pretty sure you'll get by!  Congrats and best wishes Bro from Halifax!  Cheers!

Today we left Lunenburg behind, revisited Mahone Bay for a bit and then enjoyed the country side back to Chezzetcook where our trailer once again waits for us.  It was a bit sad leaving to be honest.  The town has so much character and definition.  The streets are crazy steep and narrow, the house front is often on one street while the backyard is on the next street, and everything is built on a hill.  For this reason, almost everyone in the heart of town has a vantage point to the Atlantic Ocean.  How cool would that be??  Once again, I doubt I would ever tire of such views, and yes, we looked at real estate, but Ken would have to become a fisherman & carpenter to keep up the mortgage payments!

Mahone Bay & the 4 Churches

We did in deed venture back through Mahone Bay after leaving Lunenburg.  We got some great pictures of this town, as most prominent to the town are their 4 churches which look over the bay.  Unfortunately during our second drive through, on a Sunday morning most shops within the village dod not open until 12 noon.  Ken and Davis were saved!  No shopping sprees, no spending money, no tiredless need to watch me use my credit card.  I know my female audience is feeling my pain at least!

We made use of a more direct return ride via Hwy #103.  A quicker and more updated route than hwy # 3 for sure.  We didn't dart in and out of tiny inlets and towns, but were still occasionally treated to panoramic ocean views once the highway elevated high enough to clear the trees and cliffs.

in Halifax Harbour
Before we know it we arrived in the Northwest Arm of Halifax, close to Dalhousie where we will return to visit Leah, our page from GPL's BFM/BKM Branch, who is going to become an amazing doctor and cure my cancer one day!   ;-)  Davis was instrumental in showing us the lay of the land.  We stopped and walked the newly renovated shipping docks, which was even new to our tour guide Davis.  Even he was impressed with the new structures!  The massive cranes towered over us, and the well organized cargo bins lined up between rows and rows of prepared box cars waiting for their time to be loaded onto their next form of transportation, be it rail, transport truck or ship.  Off in the distance an ocean liner was making it's way into the harbour, but we did not stay long enough to see it dock.

We drove through the downtown district where Davis pointed out some of the "tourist hot spots" we had mentioned we were hoping to take in tomorrow as we explored.  He pointed out where we could park for the 2 breweries, Peer 21, the Halifax Ferry Yard and several other "must sees".  We realize tomorrow will be a busy day, so our hope is focused on an early start, ending with a very anticipated supper with Leah to see how her transition into 'Life at Dalhousie' is going.

Not sure who drank most of the
Moosehead, but it sure evaporated
quickly!

Davis & Myles waiting for their
Moosehead @ Dory Restaurant!

We crossed the Macdonald Bridge into Dartmouth, toured by car a bit of Dartmouth and stopped in Seaforth to have lunch at the Dory Restaurant.  Ken and Davis remained true to the culture and ordered seafood; Ken had a Fresh Lobster Roll and Davis the Shrimp Platter, both caught fresh this morning apparently!  I cheated and had a burger, not because I didn't want fish - but I am finding too much food comes with these fish meals and I am still full from breakfast!

From here we continued along the coast line, and we witnessed my next adventure sport - SURFING!!  We stopped and watched for a while.  I admired the skill and strength these folks demonstrated on this surf.  The waves were "bitch'in" and the coastline was crowded with onlookers and surfers alike!
Looking for Tricia among the DUDES!
Back at Davis' house, I was exhausted, so I had a bit of a "Kick Off" or "Kink" before supper. We had a low-key meal of salad and leftovers.  Don't feel bad here, first it was delicious, but it was also nice to sit and just relax over a beer.  We sat in Davis' living room after supper, asked questions about the next leg of our journey after tomorrow's Halifax tour, and took in as much wisdom and advise as we could absorb.  Now retired in our trailer, Ken views maps and images for the road ahead of us - literally - mapquest satelite view is pretty awesome, you have to admit!  I however catch you up on our day.

We have really enjoyed the feedback and comments everyone has been sharing with us.  Do not hesitate to be as witty or as serious as you would like in any of your responses.  Each comment or email gives us fuel for our next entries, so please, keep them coming!  We didn't receive any responses yet on yesterdays question of the day, so we will give everyone another chance to insert their input here.  ALSO, you break the rules if you Google it! Here is yesterday's Trivia Question:
What is the popular tourist attraction know as the "Honey Hut"?
NO CHEATING!

We are starting to get noticed now as "Coming from Away" - apparantly we have an accent!??  Who'd a thought!!
Until tomorrow, Cheers!
Ken & Tricia
